This le A very strange book. For one thing, the author walks the reader through a series of exercises which address the nuances and subtleties of the behavior of typography on the printed page. It suggests design strategies that transcend simple function and reductionist recipes to allow grids to become a means of truly dynamic communication. Design principles such as negative space, The Law of Thirds, area of emphasis and elements such as line, shape, form contrast, color are dealt with in this book.

Filled with extensive research and more than informative examples from the Bauhaus to Nike ads, Grid Systems provides a rich, easy-to-understand overview and demonstrates a step-by-step sysetm to typographic composition. I wish there were more pages with the overlays, because i found them very helpful, but that’s my only complaint.
