Japaneze has clear grammar and usage explanations. It is based on the more traditional approach of segmenting the language to be acquired according to structures rather than functions, and gives grammatical explanations in enough detail to be used as a reference.

Joseph added it Sep 21, The first two chapters, where you learn hiragana and katakana, are useful for pronunciation, but don’t help you to actually learn to write the characters this is not true of the kanji, where all aspects are addressed.
The number and pace of the kanji are very good.

I also found the way they introduced things to be a little backwards elemntary as doing phrases before learning hiragana, though I can see why that’d be alright in a classroom as they want you chatting and all that.

Looking yokk up is aided by extensive appendices. Also, it starts teaching kanji relatively early. It’s not bad, as the reviewers say the grammar explanations are good and I think it’s well-organized.

It feels like the book is more a supplementary text for those who study Japanese in class. The number and pace of the kanji yyoko very good. The listening comprehension exercises are excellent and I really like the recordings of the dialogues and the vocabulary. Use furigana if you think they won’t understand your kanji usage.
It contains 13 lessons, each representing one week’s instruction over multiple sessions. I have tried that, elemenhary for some reason I need a book. Do not guess or attempt to answer questions beyond your own knowledge. Please also read the full list of rules on the wiki. I would suggest giving kanji in the vocabulary lists to help Chinese students of Japanese.
